Pride and Dignity

Pride and Dignity

You know more and more it seems that we as truckers are becoming less and less appreciated for the job that we do. Now that’s not entirely one entity’s fault. On the one hand, you’ve got too many people coming out of these driving schools, being unleashed on society whereas only a small percentage of them are suited to this job. Most of them came because of the advertisements that overly glamorized the job of driving. After finding out about the sacrifice required for this industry, suddenly the job was not so attractive. Discovering how at the end of the day, the monetary compensation wasn’t much more than minimum wage didn’t help matters either.

Then there’s the other group. The show boater. This person scares the hell out of me! This is the idiot who barrels down the road with 70,000 lbs of what has now in the wrong hands become a death wagon. He weaves and bobs through traffic as if his rig is an over-sized motorcycle. Or he will show off to people going down the street by applying his “Jake Brake ” on flat land.

Most big freight companies find the novice to be very attractive mostly because they won’t have to haggle over money. They’ll do as they’re told with the constant reminder of how easy they are to replace. You really need to stop and look at any company that holds orientation every Monday. Revolving door perhaps?

People, you’ve got to have a sense of your own self worth. No matter how big the business is, or the flag it flies ,between the buyer and the seller,  you the driver are the connector. Stand together and be proud of what you do. Young drivers,  listen to the “old timers “. They have a lot to share that you need to hear! One thing that needs to be irradiated is the situation whereas for every idiotic that a sensible driver won’t do, you’ve got 10 novices who will.
