Preparation For Adverse Conditions

Drive Safe in this weatherDuring the winter months the highways and roads can be especially  dangerous. Depending on the severity of road conditions, the highway will occasionally be  shut down. You may not always  be  in proximity  to a truck  stop or  rest area, so preparedness is  a must. Here  are  some things that you  should  have.

1. Always  have plenty of fuel. You don’t know  how  long you may  be  stuck.
2. For. Extremely  cold temperatures put diesel fuel conditioner in the  tanks to prevent gelling.
3. Keep  plenty of  potable  water on hand.
4. Have a box of baby  wipes in possession, along with toilet paper, paper towels, and strong drawstring trash bags for disposal of  refuse in a respectable  manner.
5. Even if you have  a refrigerator and  microwave  oven, it is  still  a good  idea to have  plenty  of  non perishable food.
6. Warm clothes, work  boots, and blankets are a must.
7. Have a good “CB” radio with a weather  band to listen for road conditions and know when the highway  will  again  be  open  for travel.
8. Having an MP-3 compatible sound system or  flat  screen TV with built-in DVD  player  will help to pass the time while waiting  to  resume  your  journey.
