Bygone Days – I-10 at Cabazon, Ca.

Dinosaur Park I-10 at Cabazon, Ca.

Wheel Inn I-10 at Cabazon, Ca.As with all things, more and more of the mainstays of the road are becoming fond memories of the past. Just this morning I dropped in on an old restaurant called the Wheel Inn. It is located just off of I-10 at Cabazon, Ca. near Palm Springs. Much to my disappointment it was all locked up.

Oh the memories that flooded my mind. I was reminded of how many years ago I would pull up just off the road close to the front entrance, in the wee hours of the morning, and go inside for a hot cup of coffee and maybe breakfast. It was so adorable how the waitresses who served me were dressed like the Flintstones. They were always warm and friendly.

Dinosaur Park I-10 at Cabazon, Ca.Adjacent to the cafe was the dinosaur park. Two of the largest dinosaurs, one being a brontosaurus, and the other being a mammoth T-Rex were actually buildings that one could venture into. Inside were all kinds of fun facts about these reptiles. It was especially fun for the kids. Now, it’s a part of history that may or may not be preserved,.

And so it is with the people who we came to know in our travels. We’ve all gotten older. Some are retired, and sadly, some have ridden off into the sunset. I truly miss them. Make the most of your travels, and cherish the memories. Remember that the only thing in life that is constant is change.
